river run scarf

River Run Scarf
Designed by Peggy Favorite

This light, but very warm scarf uses wide ribbed cables to create a reversible sculptured texture, framed by a garter stitch border. The cables on each side of the pattern turn in on themselves, like water against a river bed. The center cable flows from side to side between the cables, but is never overturned by the current. Any soft worsted wool will work, but Malabrigo has a nice loft and is so soft against the neck.

clairs shawl pattern

Claire's Shawl by Amanda Gill

Inspired by the Outlander series of books by Diana Gabaldon, this shawl pattern is written for lace, fingering and sport weight yarn.

Price: $8.00 (PDF file emailed to you within 48 hours)

The center looks like waves and represents both the literal ocean and the figurative ocean of time, both of which are crossed numerous times throughout the book series. The first border pattern is called Horseshoe Lace, which brings to mind horses and Jamie. But, this pattern also looks like rolling hills or mountains-- the landscape of the Scottish Highlands. The last two border patters are a Celtic knot motif and Thistle Leaves, together symbolizing Claire's wedding ring. Finally, the points of the knitted edging stand around the perimeter of the shawl, representing the circle of standing stones.
